Kids Survival Skills Camp
Introduce your child to the outdoors with practical skills, confidence-building activities, and plenty of fresh air. Our Kids Survival Skills Camp in Revelstoke, BC, blends hands-on learning with safe, age-appropriate challenges. Campers leave with real skills, stronger teamwork, and a deeper respect for nature.
Who it's for
Ages 8–12
Beginners welcome; no prior experience required
Small groups for focused instruction and safety
What campers learn
Basic navigation: map reading, compass use, and simple route planning
Shelter building: choosing sites, constructing lean-tos and debris shelters
Firecraft: safe fire-building, fire safety, and cooking over a small campfire
Water safety and purification: recognizing safe water sources and simple treatment methods
Wilderness first aid basics: wound care, dealing with cold exposure, and how to summon help
Food basics: Simple trail snacks, and camp meal prep
Knotwork and gear care: practical knots, rope safety, and maintaining outdoor gear
Leave No Trace principles: minimizing impact and respecting wildlife
Teamwork and problem solving: cooperative challenges that build leadership and confidence
Daily structure (sample)
Morning: Morning hike, skill focus and instructor demonstration
Midday: guided practice and small-group challenges
Afternoon: applied scenarios (e.g., mock lost-hiker search, shelter-building contest)
Safety and instruction
Led by certified guides
Low camper-to-instructor ratios for close supervision
All activities tailored to weather conditions and group ability
Thorough pre-camp information provided for clothing, gear, and medical needs
Emergency plans and communication devices carried on every outing
What to bring (recommended)
Daypack, water bottle, and lunch/snacks
Weather-appropriate layers, rain jacket, and sturdy shoes
