  • Shelter building: choosing sites, constructing lean-tos and debris shelters

  • Firecraft: safe fire-building, fire safety, and cooking over a small campfire

  • Water safety and purification: recognizing safe water sources and simple treatment methods

  • Wilderness first aid basics: wound care, dealing with cold exposure, and how to summon help

  • Food basics: Simple trail snacks, and camp meal prep

  • Knotwork and gear care: practical knots, rope safety, and maintaining outdoor gear

  • Leave No Trace principles: minimizing impact and respecting wildlife

  • Teamwork and problem solving: cooperative challenges that build leadership and confidence

Daily structure (sample)

  • Morning: Morning hike, skill focus and instructor demonstration

  • Midday: guided practice and small-group challenges

  • Afternoon: applied scenarios (e.g., mock lost-hiker search, shelter-building contest)
